Hey guys,
I have a quick question. My land lady called me today and I guess the spot that I take out Chelsea has to become a different releveing spot because she said it smells too badly of urine. I guess I didn't notice because I'm just use to weird smells I guess. So I was wondering what makes a dog's pee smell funny? I sure went outside to brush her and releeve her and sure enough I smelled it and yeah it stinks lol. So hopefully it'll only take a few days and it'll clear out and maybe I can start using that spot again. I guess I've got a few other places I can take her out at in front an din back of the building I live in, so I guess that won't be a problem. I just don't want this happening again, and then she complains again. So I was wondering if it was something that I should be calling my vet about or not? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Urine should not smell. A dog's urine should especially not smell. If you can smell your dog's urine, they aren't getting enough water and the enzymes in their urine is less diluted. Give your dog more water.
Now let me ask you something. How the hell do you get your dog to go in one place? My dog won't stay in the same place if I made her go to the bathroom on a hand towel.
It also depends on if your dog is fixed or not. If this is a guide dog, then they are always fixed and it shouldn't make much difference if you've a male or female. If they are peeing on the tar or cement, well then it might smell a bit as it just dries and there isn't anything to absorb it. If it's peeing on the grass; it shouldn't smell, but could possibly kill the grass. Dog pee is just like human pee. If they don't get enough water, then enzymes build up and the pee becomes highly concentrated. If you want to take the dog to the vet and have a urine test just to check for bladder infections, that's up to you, but I doubt that it has any.
As to Silver Lightning, well, if you start when they are little and just walk the pup around in the same place, then it usually gets used to going in one place. However, most guide dogs are generally trined for this all ready when you get one.
Mine is a regular dog rescued from the shelter. She's a 10 year lab and she listens very well so she can go offleash, but she still pees in the same place.
The larger the dog, the easier it is to train them.
Good luck.

Good luck with your landlady.
It is always a good idea to switch spots frequently; or try a pee-padd. It allows your dog to urinate in the house without house soiling. My aunt and uncle use it for their chuawa (sorry for the spelling error) and it works! You can use them for larger dogs too. Or bring a squirt bottle out with you and spray the area after Chelsy goes number 1. Also, keep water accessible at all times (except at night) and good luck!
